< 폴모리아 (Paul Mauriat) >

<에게해의 진주><이사도라>등 수많은 명곡을 연주하면 무드음악의 지평을 열었던 프랑스의 작곡가 겸 지휘자인 폴 모리아가 2006년 11월 3일 새벽에 사망하였다. 향년 81세. 1925년 프랑스 마르세이유에서 태어난 모리아는 마르세이유 국립음악원을 졸업한 뒤 '폴모리아 오케스트라'를 창단했다. 1968년 앙드레 포브의 작품을 편곡한 <러브 이즈 블루>와 <이사도라>로 미국 인기순위를 휩쓸며 세계적으로 유명해졌다. <러브 이즈 블루>는 전미 히트차트에서 연속 5주 1위를 기록, 그해 그래미상을 받았다. 샤를르 아즈나브르, 멜리나 메르쿠니, 레오 페레 등 많은 가수들에게 곡을 만들어 주기도 했다. 폴 모리아 악단은 70~80년대 한국에 팝송을 유행시킨 대표적인 문화 아이콘으로 꼽힌다.
